Idea
The installation will produce the atmosphere of a town in movement and
light up different basic conditions of its existence.
It is not our idea to tell from the historic development of the urban
nature or even a certain town (utopia). rather it is our intention to
make a stock-taking of, how the social construction town presents itself
in the current time.
For us the town is a real possibility how people, with their individual
needs, can live together on a relatively small area. To give a certain
quality to this way of life, however, certain basic conditions must be
given.
Banal daily things, like power from a socket, water from the water-tap,
traffic lights, green areas etc, require infrastructures and organizations,
which are not necessarily visible in the everyday life. To show these
structures/basic conditions is aim of the installation.
How these structures cause each other, how they disappear, mutate, how
new structures came to existence, even those wich look nonsensical, because
their history is lost, this is the content of the installation.
Scene
Differently sized wooden frames (max. 2,5 m x 1m), covered
with architctpaper - as a projection screen, technical equipment (slide
projectors, monitors, videobeamer, speakers, amplifiers etc) and a ceiling
projektion form the model of a town, produce the illusion of buildings,
streets, parks and sky.
The viewer can move on a definited area of the installation and share
the development of the performance.
During performance the viewer will be leaded through different aspects
of the town: material structure, administration, traffic, energy, leisure,
communication.
These separate aspects will be realized at different parts of the installation
according to the structure.
Slides and videos of frank gillich, especially done for this installation,
will create the images and the lightening of the scene. Sampled sound
and purely electronically sounds during performance complete this collage.
Under the ceiling is a kind of "heaven" projection, covering
the whole scene and producing a permanent motion. The performance will
be recorded, and the sounds and images will run during the lasting of
the installation. |
