For our project
"Rescue" at the Akzente 2001 in Duisburg/Germany we invited students from
the IUA Barcelona to come.
It
was our aim to protect data from disappearing in the internet/cache
nirwana. We collected a chaos of data while surfing in the internet
for two weeks.
The
performance made of this data was about how to move inside the net and
getting lost.
We
produced four video/audio stations in an outside projection while the
audience was running from screen to screen.
1. Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to the first
part of the Multimedia Performance Rescue.
2. First of all, we would like to explain to you the technical background
of rescue.
3. If you are an internet average user, you exchange data with other computers
in the world wide web. Besides, data is being sent to your computer so that
you are able to see internet pages with, images, information.
4. This package of information consists of a html controler data, text,
images, and more often sounds.
5. This data is saved on your hard disk, and remains there even after disconecting
with the internet. The name of the folder is Cache inside your browser.
6. Usually, your browser nestcape communicator or internet explorer deletes
this data after a few days.
7. There was, however, a lot of work involved in the creation of these images
and sounds and they are need for the construction of internet. We believe
that this data must be saved before it gets lost forever.
8. The result of our rescue aktion will be shown in the following performace
The
first part was about entering the net, how to surf.
Franca and Sandra
programmed an interactive director movie. They prepared a lot of black
holes inside the net, such like waiting for nothing or not being alowed
to enter. Lucero tried to find a way through the internet by testing buttons.

The
second part started with the first sides of the net as a historical reference,
but then ending up in confusion.
We were happy when
we found navigator 1.0 in the net and how the design of the pages has
changed from plain text to movie and sound animated pages. We tried out
a lot of things creating images and movies from material we found. Aurea
did a lot of lovely image moving.
Lucero got realy
confused when she tried to find the sense.

The
third part was about the sound inside and surounding the world wide web.
Enrique
and Mik@ searched for sounds in and around the net and created a composition
making you reconcile with the net surfing information desaster.
The
place was colored with the colors of the screen red, blue and green.

The fourth part
was a movie "Inside the net", running searching, falling and beeing rescued.
Now you have learned
how to move inside the net. You know were to go when you need help and
you do not care anymore for the animated gif advertising.
Jaume is blowing
up the cache ballon till ... it blows up.
Now you can loose
yourself inside the nice designed world wide web.
